Collaboration Meets Hands-On Experiences

A key component of The Middle School Experience is the powerful relationship forged between teacher and student, as well as between peers. College-prep academics are balanced with a plethora of opportunities for social growth. Focused on critical thinking and creativity, our core Middle School curriculum emphasizes how to study, explore, research, and communicate effectively.

Essential Components of The Middle School Experience

Individualized Education

Personal Passion Project (P3)

Interscholastic Sports

The Middle School Experience is specialized by its hands-on exploration of topics in and out of the classroom.

Different from any Middle School around, our students engage in unique learning opportunities that are challenging, individualized, engaging, and student-directed. Students will experience their time at school wholly differently from anything they have encountered before. Core subjects taught include:

  • Math and Science
  • Humanties
  • World Languages: French, Spanish
  • Arc-en-ciel: A French Immersion Program
  • Art and Music
  • Technology
  • Physical Education/Wellness

An Individualized and Differentiated Program

Faculty members encourage, support and monitor the progress of each child, and maintain high expectations for academic and personal growth. Teachers come to know students as individuals with many talents and abilities, while also speaking honestly about areas of challenge. Faculty members establish a collaborative relationship with parents based on an understanding of early adolescence as a challenging but important stage in human development in which academic, personal, and social growth hold equal value in preparing students for future success.

Roycemore’s Middle School provides an educational home for young people to thrive, and opportunities for student success abound!

1:1 Chromebook Program

Personal Passion Project

Our newly launched P3 (Personal Passion Project) period provides an opportunity for students to engage in projects designed by them! Twice a week students will have time in the schedule where they will work with a teacher/ coach and an expert mentor on their project within six broad themes: Journalism/Media; Entrepreneurship; Technology/STEM; Visual Arts; No Walls Learning; and Music/Chorus. Students will have time to dive even more deeply into their chosen topic during a special week in January.

Self Development

The Middle School Shield program helps students look regularly and carefully at how well they embrace and exhibit our school’s core values of scholarship, integrity, community, respect, and compassion. Coupled with fun social outings to places like Navy Pier, Six Flags Great America, movies, or Millennium Park, Roycemore offers an environment where students feel a sense of belonging, and are supported to push outside their comfort zone and try new things.

Advisory Program

Our Advisory Program provides every student with a faculty advisor who serves as the primary point of contact for academic, social and emotional issues. The House system (think Harry Potter) groups students for fun, social competitions throughout the year striving to gain points to receive the Griffin Cup!

  • Gifted students or students with learning differences can obtain extra help through fee-based Learning Support services and from our Gifted Coordinator, both of which also provide on-site collaboration with our teachers.

1:1 Chromebook Program

Our 1:1 Chromebook program supports both academic and social learning. Each student is given a carefully monitored Chromebook, which allows teachers to further differentiate curriculum and foster collaboration.

Our programs are what make Roycemore’s Middle School an amazing and engaging experience for each and every student. Read more in our Middle School Brochure.
